Commitments
Community Care College is free. It always will be. The courses are built to be useful to anyone, wherever they are, whatever their background. These commitments exist to make that real. Not just as a tagline, but in how the content is written, what it asks of students, and what it refuses to ask.
Free, forever
No fees. No prerequisites. No application process. You do not need to pay or get permission to learn here. Every course, every module, every piece of content on this site is free and will stay free. This is not a temporary offer or a marketing decision. Readily available for the community is the foundation.
Anyone in the world can study here. Formal enrolment, mentorship, and completion acknowledgement is currently exclusive to those living in Australia.
Language
This site uses they/them as the default pronoun. No assumptions are made about who is reading or who a student is. Where examples use people, those people are not assumed to be male, to speak English as a first language, or to come from any particular place. Language shapes what feels possible. We try to use it carefully.
Accessibility and assumptions
Learning is for everyone. Course content here tries not to assume how someone interacts with a computer, or the world, where they come from, what they look like, or what they are able to do. Where we slip up and use language that assumes a particular body, ability, or background, we want to know. If an example only makes sense to someone with a specific physical experience or cultural context, it is not a good example. We are working on this and are always open to feedback and comments. Your culture, your voice
Every course has a concrete output. That output belongs to the student who made it. The content here uses shared examples to teach shared concepts, but the work students produce is theirs to fill with their own experience. A local animal, a word from their language, a place they know, a story from their community. None of this is required. All of it is welcome.
How we interpret things may differ from how you interpret them. Please question everything, including what we preach and practice.
Education for its own sake
These courses are not designed to get you a job. They are designed to help you gain knowledge and apply it with something substantial of your own creation to reflect on. If that leads somewhere professionally, good. But that is not our measure of success. Our measure is whether you can now do something you previously could not.
These are living commitments
These commitments will change. Not because we abandoned them, but because we learned something, or got something wrong, or the world shifted and our thinking had to follow. If you think we have missed something, contradicted ourselves, or drifted away from our values and mission, please say so. We mean this. We would like the community to help hold us accountable.
